According to gorockford.com, Davis Park at Founders Landing marks the site where Rockford's cultural and industrial heritage began. Its seven acres are bordered by the Rock River and two major streets in downtown Rockford. It also features numerous paved walks and numerous parking lots. Founders Landing is significant to Rockford's heritage because it was this area along the edge of the Rock River where early settlers crossed the river at a rocky ford which existed near where Kent Creek and the Rock River come together. These settlers developed many of the first industries in the Rockford area. Originally this area was known as the Water Power District. Today, you can see a tribute to these settlers at Davis Park where you'll find a sculpture of founders Thatcher Blake, Lewis Lemon and Germanicus Kent to celebrate Rockford's birthplace and its cultural and industrial heritage. Today, Davis Park and Founders Landing is home to an outdoor venue which hosts many recreational events as w...

Dickerson Nieman's Byron office's Managing Broker Alisa Patterson was named the Citizen of the Year by the Byron Chamber of Commerce. Here are remarks from the award presentation ceremony… "This individual is a quiet force in the Byron Community. Although a very successful business woman, she will tell you that her most important titles (and she has MANY) are a wife and mother. She has found an impressive life balance while remaining a force in the business community. She encourages appreciation of the Byron area and her enthusiasm is contagious. This individual is a VERY active Chamber member, always willing to assist with the different events and activities and more than willing to provide as much sponsorship dollars as possible to ensure successful events. It was stated that this person is the epitome of the quiet contributor, and hopefully, shining the light on her with this award will encourage other quiet contributors to keep up their good work in the community. As alre...

Tam Derry, a Dickerson & Nieman Broker/Realtor looks at the Local Housing Market I am very excited and optimistic about this spring's home-buying season. Buyers are finally ready to make a move to take advantage of record low interest rates. This year's season is different because inventory is far less than demand. We are at a record low of 1,900 listings instead of the typical 3,200. This will help shift the housing market back to a sellers' market and raise market values. There are simply not enough good, clean, move-in condition homes available. Homes with a compelling list price are selling faster. There are more dual offers on properties, and that's causing selling prices to rise. I will be doing a lot more open houses to meet "Sunday shoppers". I am very busy with first-time homebuyers and young couples selling and buying larger homes. People that were holding out are tired of waiting. My sales focus in April and May will be to get more listings. I have a great networking sp...
