Dickerson and Nieman is proud that he Rockford area has so much to offer nature lovers! The Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens brings the tropics to the Midwest. The facility is the third largest conservatory in Illinois and is located along the banks of the Rock River. The 22,000 square-foot conservatory includes an 11,000 square foot plant exhibition with water features, sculptures, seating areas all in a tropical plant setting.
Seasonal floral displays are also featured as well as educational programs where children can learn the importance of plants. The Conservatory also hosts lecture series and special workshops and it also is the perfect place for events like business meetings, weddings and receptions.
Field trips to the Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens are also available allowing children to learn about this tropical paradise in the heart of Rockford!
Special events are scheduled throughout the year including April's "Butterfly Month" which returns this year from April 2-28. Over a thousand butterflies are released into a special netted area of NCG. You'll be able to see hundreds of native butterflies including Monarchs and Painted Ladies. There will also be three "Breakfast with the Butterflies" events on Saturdays.
The Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens is named after the Nicholas family, who donated over $2 million toward the conservatory in 2006 to honor their parents. Like many Rockford families, the Nicholas family spent much of their time outdoors enjoying Sinissippi Park and the Rock River. They turned this love of the outdoors into a gracious donation that allows the Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens to serve as a gathering place for the community and catalyst for future river development.
