October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month, in support, we would like to introduce you to one of our real estate associates, Kathleen Kline. Kathleen is a two time survivor of breast cancer and recently had a bench dedicated in her honor! The bench is located at the new at the
Swedish American Regional Cancer Center .
Kathleen has had two separate bouts with breast cancer: The first in 2006, and the second in 2010. Kathleen is convinced that Swedish American Regional Cancer Center offered her the best treatment and thankfully, her insurance covered her at this great institution. In addition to her two rounds for breast cancer, she had had several surgeries on her breasts for other non-cancerous problems. All in all, the double mastectomy was her 7th breast surgery within a 5 year period.
After the first lumpectomy in 2006, she underwent radiation therapy. After the double mastectomy in 2010, she had two separate chemotherapy treatments. The last surgery was in May 2010 and she finished treatment in December of 2010. She will have permanent neuropathy in her feet which has changed some of her ability to participate in sporting activities, but her focus has been on all that she can still do rather than dwelling on the things that are no longer possible. Additionally, she takes an estrogen blocker and will probably take it for a long time.
Now onto the good stuff… Kathleen has been with
Dickerson Nieman for 7 years, joining us after she completed radiation therapy, fulfilling a lifelong dream of selling homes. She loves her career and enjoys helping people find their dream home. Her niche area is older homes, but she really focuses on her customers and helping them find the type of home that suits their needs. She is also the realtor and property manager for the Garrison properties. The Garrison School and Gym (built in the late 1800's) have been renovated into loft apartments, and a series of new townhomes built in loft style and two older homes renovated comprise this northwest Rockford gem.
We are proud to have this strong, determined survivor as part of our family. Congratulations Kathleen! If you would like to support Kathleen team this Saturday in the
