Let Freedom Ring Festival: "A Star Spangled Celebration!" 4:30 to 10 p.m. July 2, 1 p.m. to midnight July 3, 7 a.m. to midnight July 4 and 8 a.m. to midnight July 5. Mount Morris' annual festival will include a queen coronation, ice cream social, silent auction, concerts and fair. The Grand Parade will begin at 2 p.m. July 4 and will be led by Mount Morris centenarians who have reached their 100th birthday, or will before the end of summer. The parade route is in downtown Mount Morris and includes West Main Street and South Mulberry Avenue. At dusk on Independence Day, the Fireworks Extravaganza will be held at David L. Rahn Junior High. For information: 815-973-4106; letfreedomeringfestival.com. Rockford Symphony Orchestra's annual Independence Day Spectacular. 8 p.m. July 3. Featured pieces include "God Bless America," Aaron Copland's "Hoedown," a Beach Boys medley and John Philip Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever." Fireworks display included. The Rockford Symphony Orchestra will also host a picnic before the show at 6 p.m. Admission for the show: $30, adults; $29, students and seniors. Highlights include food booths, amusement rides, movie in the park, car show and breakfast. A parade will be held at 10 a.m. July 4 followed by the opening ceremonies. Fireworks begin at dusk with viewing from the lawn of Winnebago Middle School, 407 N. Elida St., Winnebago. For information: villageofwinnebago.com/index.php?page=4th-of-july. Rockford's Fourth of July celebration. 7 a.m. to dark July 4. The celebration begins at 7 a.m. with the MELD/Alan Hutchcroft Classic Memorial 8K and 2-mile run starting at the Trolley Station on North Madison Street. A 1-mile fun walk starts at 8 a.m. The annual parade begins at 6:30 p.m. with more than 500 motorcycles driving the parade route in downtown Rockford. The Silver Creek Band will play at 7:30 p.m. in Davis Park. The SkyConcert Fireworks Show begins over downtown Rockford at 9:30 p.m. The display will be synced with music on B103 radio. Shirland's Fourth of July celebration. 6 a.m. to noon July 4. Events include a pancake breakfast at Shirland United Methodist Church, a 5K run/walk starting at Shirland Elementary School, a 10 a.m. parade through downtown Shirland and a 50/50 raffle. For information: 815-629-2049. Durand's Fourth of July Festival. 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. July 4 and 8 a.m. to midnight July 5. The festival will include a street dance, a parade, a 5K race and an ice cream social on Center Street in downtown Durand. Fireworks will be launched at 9:30 p.m. July 4 at Durand High School, 200 W. The event will look at the physics and chemistry behind explosions, with experiments involving explosions conducted. Independence Day racing and fireworks extravaganza. 7:07 p.m. July 4. A 10,000 watt fireworks display and the awesome fire power of the Green Mamba Jet Car will be on display along with Sportsman and Short Tracker racing. Gates will open at 5 p.m. General admission: $12, adults; $8, students ages 12-17; $5, children ages 6-11; free, children ages 5 and younger. Reserved seating: $15, adults ages 12 and older; $5, children ages 11 and younger. Rockford Speedway, 9572 Forest Hills Road, Loves Park. Freeport Skyconcert 2014. 9:30 p.m. July 4. The fireworks will be provided by Melrose Pyrotechnics and will be synchronized to music by Kickin' Country K92 radio. Food, including hot dogs, hamburgers, pie, ice cream and kettle corn, will be served. Time Warp Entertainment will provide the music before the display. Free. Stephenson County Fairgrounds, 2250 S. Walnut Road, Freeport. For information: 815-235-8200. Kirkland Fourth of July Community Breakfast. 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. July 5. The breakfast will include biscuits and gravy, eggs and ham, pancakes, muffins, fruit, milk, juice and coffee. Cost: $7. First United Methodist Church, 300 South St., Kirkland. For information: kirklandumc.org. Village of Davis Junction Veteran's Memorial dedication. 1 p.m. July 5. The Veteran's Memorial honors all community members who enlisted or served in active duty while living in Davis Junction. A fireworks display will be held at dusk, followed by a special showing of "The Lego Movie." Free; popcorn and drinks available for purchase. Davis Junction Community Park, 301 Lincoln Ave. For information: davisjunction.com. First Fridays' Fourth of July Show. 7 p.m. July 5. First Fridays is an Illinois music series that features performers the first Friday of every month. The July 5 show will feature Tom Wadsworth portraying Thomas Jefferson while reading the Declaration of Independence. After the reading, musicians from across the state will perform new folk or Americana music. The VFW will offer food and beverages for purchase. VFW Club, 1310 W. Washington St., Oregon.
