The median age of U.S. Realtors is now 56 years with only 12% of Realtors under 40, says the National Association of Realtors. That means there is a 25-year age difference between the average Realtor and their first-time homebuyer clients. The generation gap worries members of the real estate industry who wonder how today's Realtors are interacting with younger, more tech-saavy buyers. Enter Rockford's new Young Professional Network.
The Rockford Area Realtors "Young Professionals Network" was begun in 2014 to encourage motivated young professionals to enter the real estate industry. The network helps next-gen real estate professionals get a leg up on their careers by providing them with the tools and support they need to excel (lead by our own Brad Shields as Chair, Tyler Ragan as Vice Chair and Brandon Johnson as Secretary).
YPN is based on four core areas of engagement:
- Realtor Association Involvement. To help new entrants into the field attain leadership roles within local, state and national associations.
- Real Estate Advocacy. To keep new young professionals informed and engaged about the latest events affecting local, state and national real estate policy.
- Business Peer Development. To encourage young real estate professionals to learn from each other through events, online forums and peer-to-peer mentoring.
- Effect Community. To foster the creation of innovative community projects that engage Realtors and help transform Rockford.
