We have all heard the headlines: high crime, failing schools and a generation of young people who are likely to be worse off financially than their parents.
Sure, it's easy to get lost in negativity or indifference, but now
there's an easy way to have a role in improving the outcomes and potential of young people throughout our region.
Support Project 505
Project 505 is an initiative launched by the YMCA of Rock River Valley with a goal of
activating hundreds of teens to take ownership of their community, while providing them with positive, engaging and developmental support in a safe and inclusive environment.
We launched Project 505 as a way to make that first step in this ambitious goal. Students who are accepted into the program are given a YMCA membership, as well as access to peer groups, mentors and specialized programming. We have expanded our weekend hours to ensure that each student has access to a safe space with strong, supportive programs, peers and staff.
To stay a member of Project 505, each student will spend time volunteering for a local non-profit or community group each month.
In a year's time,
this will account for over 24,000 hours of service, which equates to roughly $545,000 worth of service hours invested back into parts of our community that need help the most.
We know that the key to transforming the greater Rockford region is to involve young people in the process. To that end, we are working tirelessly
to bring teens from casual observers to committed leaders, who will invest their own time and talents to improving our community.
To achieve this goal,
we need your help.
Support Project 505
We are seeking your support to ensure that 505 students have the support they need to be successful, secure and ready to take on the challenges our community faces. However, this comes with a cost. Our goal is to raise $172,000 to cover the cost of 505 memberships for one year.
