Cleaning Guide Before Moving Out
Are you ending the lease contract on your house or listing it for sale? You need to ensure your home is in tip-top condition. So, you need to thoroughly clean it before moving out and handing over the keys. While cleaning is a regular task, moving out can be stressful and confusing, making it hard to decide how and where to clean. To reduce the confusion, our real estate agents have put together this cleaning guide for you before moving out.
- Handle the Necessary Repairs
Before cleaning, you need to ensure your home is in good condition. So, start by handling any necessary minor repairs like patching holes you made when hanging art, pictures, or curtains. Replace any burned-out lighting fixtures and repair any leaking faucets or sinks. - Remove Your Belonging
Once you have handled the repairs, it is time to gather your stuff as you prepare to clean. Remove any property you bought or added to the home. It can be furniture, wall art, closet items, and begin packing them.
Label the boxes you pack items into to make the items easy to locate after moving. After packing, move all the boxes and luggage into one room to make it easy to clean the rest of the house. After packing, double-check storage areas like cabinets, closets, and drawers to ensure you didn't leave anything behind. - Clean the Entire House Instead of Room by Room
When moving out, there is a lot to do. Scheduling dates with a moving company, and packing, you need to find an effective cleaning method. Cleaning the entire house task by task is more efficient than cleaning one room at a time.
For example, choosing to dust the whole house, vacuum, and mop is easier and more efficient than cleaning the kitchen and moving to the bedroom. Moving from room to room performing the same cycle of tasks could result in you feeling stuck in an endless repetitive cycle. - Sweep and Vacuum the Floors Before Mopping
Floors take on heavy traffic and are prone to get dirty even after daily cleaning. Although you can sweep the floor to remove debris, sweeping is barely enough to ensure the house is clean. So, after sweeping, consider vacuuming before mopping.
Vacuum the carpets and mop the floors. If you have a furry pet, the fur can accumulate on the carpet, under the furniture, and around the corners. Vacuum properly to get rid of the fur, also, check for any pet stains on the carpet and steam clean them to remove these spots. - Deep Clean the House
Clean every room thoroughly. For the kitchen, ensure you clean the floors, cabinets, oven, refrigerator, and other appliances in the kitchen. Don't forget to sanitize, disinfect the dishwasher and wash out the sink. When cleaning the living room and bedrooms, wipe down the furniture, walls, and ceiling fans. Wash the windows, window sills, and blinds, and finish off with the floors.
Finish off by cleaning the bathroom. Wipe down the ceiling, counter, and walls using a damp rag. Scrub the tub or shower space and clean the drain using a chemical drain cleaner. Remove toiletries in the drawers, clean them, and wipe down windows and mirrors using a window cleaner. Finish off by scrubbing the toilet, bathroom sink, and floor.
