Rockford AirFest 2014 returns this weekend on Saturday and Sunday after a one-year hiatus! This two-day community event expects crowds near 75,000 people to Rockford to enjoy the thrill of aviation. In addition to the wonderful acts in the air, there are more than 100 ground attractions including aircraft on display, children's play area, aircraft simulators, and more. Rockford AirFest 2014 is proud to have hosted some of the best pilots in the world, including the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, and the Black Diamond Jet Team. Plans for this year's Rockford Sharefest Project were released. So here's the news...this year we will join together to bring help and hope to our city at Roosevelt High School and a downtown initiative called Forest City Beautiful! In partnership with RPS 205, a major renovation will find its way to some very deserving students at Roosevelt High School. This school is a second chance destination for young men and women who are capturing new vision and purpose for their life. All of your sweat equity will bring restoration to a building that matches the restoration taking place in their own lives! What a great way to live beyond yourself! Second, we will join in a two-year initiative developed by the City of Rockford and the Rockford Area Convention and Visitors Bureau called Forest City Beautiful. Each year, Rockford is an amazing place to celebrate the holiday season and this year is no exception! The season kicks off in full gear this Thanksgiving weekend with two events bound to provide hours of fun for your family. Rockford Thanksgiving Turkey Trot The Rockford Road Runners' oldest race is the Rockford Thanksgiving Turkey Trot which takes place on Thanksgiving Day. The trail race course at Aldeen Park is approximately a 5K distance. Runners guess their time with no timepieces allowed. Finish closest to your predicted time to win Thanksgiving turkeys or pies but you must be present to win. Start time is slated for 9am though those that expect to take longer than an hour may have an early start at 8:30am.
